Initial Products to Include Storage Systems, PCI Express Expansion Chassis, Gigabit Ethernet, and FireWire 800 Adapters

Sonnet Technologies announced its first products with Thunderbolt technology at the 2011 NAB Show. Developed by Intel and brought to market with technical collaboration from Apple, Thunderbolt technology supports high-performance data services and high-resolution displays through a single, compact port. Based on PCI Express and DisplayPort technologies, Thunderbolt provides support for two channels on the same connector with 10 Gbps of throughput per channel in both directions.

"We are excited to offer products with the revolutionary Thunderbolt I/O technology," said Robert Farnsworth, CEO of Sonnet Technologies. "Sonnet's product design philosophy has always been 'simply fast,' and Thunderbolt technology will enable us to deliver several additional high-performance products that are simple to connect and use — and fast."

Will this SonnetTech Echo Express works with ProTools HD Native card and with MacBook Pr ( with thunderbolt)?

Did Avid test this configuration?

This is very interesting expansion system!!!! It looks like an expressbox from Magma but it is not.

I'm hoping that AVID-Digidesign would consider testing this new Echo Express expansion from SonnetTech.

As this technology is approaching I would like to say, on behalf of hundreds/thousands of Pro Tools users, that a new Thunderbolt interface, cable  and chassis to the  original HD cards,
replacing the  PCI/ Expresscard interface and the much "too short"  1.5 m. cable, will be very welcome to a large & professional society.
After all, TDM processing power is not replaced by the Light Peak protocol.
Also, there is a question about RAM. Would it be possible to add a chassis with extra RAM, so that
Pro users could get up to 64 GB on their laptops?
That would really be helpful, with several Pro applications nowadays recommennding 16GB RAM minimum.
