The PCIe SmartLink is Magma’s solution to ultimately replacing the 10Gigabit Ethernet network with PCI Express technology and be the network fabric of the Enterprise Server architecture.
Many advantages to such an approach with PCIe SmartLink
There are overwhelming advantages to such an approach. The PCIe SmartLink allows for communication between two separate and independent system memory resources by two Root Complex Processors at wire speeds. This approach is highly… Continue

PCI-to-VME Expansion
VME is a 32-bit bus developed in the early 80's. It has been widely used in the fields of instrumentation and military applications. The PCI-to-VME Expansion solution allows users to control thousands of VME products using a relatively powerful desktop computer in place of an expensive VME controller.
PCI-to-PCI Expansion
PCI-to-PCI Expansion is a good solution to provide additional PCI™ slots to a desktop or… Continue

gen 2 has twice the bandwidth of gen 1, and therefore an 8x gen 2 PCI-E slot has the same bandwidth as a 16x gen 1 PCI-E slot.
In PCIe 1.x , each lane carries 250 MB/s. PCIe 2.0, released in late 2007, adds a Gen2-signalling mode, doubling the rate to 500 MB/s. PCIe 3.0, currently in development (for release around 2010), will add a Gen3-signalling mode, at 1 GB/s.
As a point of reference, a single-lane PCIe 1.x slot has nearly twice as much bandwidth as the most common… Continue

Using an expresscard will not be working with the 15” MacBook Pro (5,2) platforms because they don't have an expresscard slot. The future 17” MacBook Pro has the expresscard slot.
ExpressCard supports two form factors, ExpressCard/34 (34 mm wide) and ExpressCard/54 (54 mm wide, in an L-shape) — the connector is the same on both (width 34 mm). Standard cards are 75 mm long (10.6 mm shorter than CardBus) and 5 mm thick, but may be thicker on sections that extend outside the… Continue

Using Magma Expansion EB7 ( www.magma.com)
Operating System: Mac Os 10.6
Problem:
Under 64bit kernel (10.6.- Snow Leopard), it won't detect the Magma / Protools.
If you want to boot to 64bit Kernel you have to press 64 key on boot, but it won't detect the Magma chassis as well as the Protools Cards.
If you boot to 32bit ( by default), everything works fine
Analysis: Most probably the expansion chassis is detected but not the Protools hardware.
