Expansion Technology

PCI & PCIExpress Expansion Systems

Hello,

I recently moved from a G4 MDD tower to a Dual 2Ghz G5(M9455) tower.
I now find myself needing an expansion chassis for my current setup, which consists of the G5, a Pro Tools HD3(PCI-non Accel), a SNS Ellipse PCI-X Fibre Channel HBA, Pro Tools HD 7.4.2 running on Mac OS 10.5.8. I'm not ready to make the leap to a new Mac Pro/Pro Tools HDX. I've been checking out eBay and looking on Avid's site for compatibility info. I'd like an error free system when all is said and done. So far, the info I'm receiving is not consistent. There's got to be a "chart" which lists compatible parts and what I should be looking for an what to avoid. So that's what I'm here to find out. Thanks in advance!

The compatible, qualified and certified Expansion chassis for ProTools and MacPro is the PE6R4-I model.

This is the best expansion chassis solution for Protools HD and MacPro ( Intel machine).

I own a Dual 2Ghz G5(PCI-X) not a Mac Pro(PCIe).

You can use either 4slot PCI expansion unit or a 7slot PCI expanion unit. Both expansion units are 32bit, they are not 64bit.
